30th July 2017
The venue this year was “The Lowland Games” at Thorney in Somerset. There were fun and games on the coach taking us there.
Kipper was celebrating his 80th birthday and ABO his 72nd.
ABO gets a Down! Down! for his birthday.
One of many games played on the journey to the venue was ‘Pass The Parcel’ which resulted in lots of embarrassing forfeits such as wearing clothes inside-out, laughing continuously for three minutes, etc.
BOF’s forfeit was to feed Codpiece jelly whilst blindfolded. This didn’t work very well using a spoon.
So BOF offered Codpiece handfuls of jelly - very little of which went into her mouth and mostly everywhere else.
“OI! BOF! Did you wash your hands after the pee stop at Dorchester?”
“Didn’t have time and it wasn’t a pee. It was a poo!”
At this point Codpiece quickly spat out the jelly.
Another forfeit was for a Harriette to be blindfolded and then kissed by three males. Those three were Kipper and Souffle - both over 80 and obviously good kissers - and a dog. The dog’s kisses were rated the best.
ABO unwraps his layer of the ‘Pass The Parcel’.
Bumblebee’s forfeit was to have lipstick applied whilst the coach was going down a winding country lane.
We arrived at Thorney and emerged in a strange variety of animal fancy dresses and carrying inflated animals.
Kipper celebrated his recent 80th birthday by running all the Main Hash.
We arrived at the Lowland Games to find a Hash Raft had been built secretly by Honest John and helpers. It was hoped this would win the annual Lowland Games Raft Race prize.
The Hash Raft won Second Place!
The launch down the steep river bank went OK but that was the last moment when anything went right!
Rosie sets off over the slippery pole across the river.
On the way back he slipped and landed astride the pole. We asked him if he would try that again but he said he had lost his nerve and hadn’t got the balls to try it again.
As soon as the raft was put in the water it was obvious that it would not take the weight of six Hashers.
From there on it was a case of swimming and pushing the wreckage to the finish line which was a remarkably long way from the start.
Some passing mermaids rescued one of the inflated animals which were swept away in the sinking.
The upturned Hash Raft caused traffic jams as other rafts forced their way through to overtake.
To add to the anguish of the Hash rafters they were sprayed with powerful water jets.
Overtaken by a raft of Doggers.
If you don’t know what ‘Dogging’ is then watch the explanatory video here
WARNING - explicit contents!
SOS! Bumblebee abandons raft.
He was told to bring a change of clothes - so did he? Nope!
Meanwhile, on the river bank...
Unfortunately BOF got caught short a long way from the Portaloos...
...but Buscock had some doggy poo bags to hand and cleared it up.
The Finishing Line - at last!
The raft remains are hauled out ready to go to the dump.
There was an obstacle course challenge which the younger Hashers attempted.
Meanwhile, back in the beer tent Rosie was celebrating the return of feelings in his groin after his mishap slipping on the pole over the river.
On the way home we stopped for sausage and chips at The Halfway House in Pitney.
There were a huge number of Down! Downs! In fact it seemed as though nobody was left out!
Swatchstika and Buscock were Down! Downed! for organising such a great event. A huge amount of work goes into these Mystery Hashes and this was one of the best.
The Birthday Boys were Down! Downed!
There was a naming ceremony during which Bumblebee lingered far long over the young lady’s assets!
The drink was to help her forget Bumblebee’s wandering fingers.
Kipper was surprised to receive a large cake with his face on it.
There’s an old saying “He who let it go smells it”
Have you ever noticed that women go to the toilet in pairs? Why is that? If men did that it would raise a few eyebrows.
On the coach home two Harriettes squeezed into the tiny toilet on the coach. First Amy then Organgrinder.
It took two strong Hashers to get the door open and extricate them.
Thanks to everyone who provided me with pictures!
