The sprawling Weston housing estate is remarkably boring in term of Portland-specific items of interest; streets of uninteresting houses with the Kimberlin Social Club [1] in its centre.

There was once an excellent painted garage door on this estate featuring a 'transformer robot'. Unfortunately, I never got around to photographing it before it was painted over. That was the last interesting thing I saw here.

WESTON ESTATE

One day in February 2015 I walked around the Weston Estate to photograph things of interest. I found none so took these pictures anyway.

This is a fairly new accommodation block and yet it was built in the same ‘East German Communist’ style of architecture like most of the rest of the estate. What a huge lost opportunity to create something with character but yet functional!

KIMBERLIN CLUB [1]

At the heart of the Weston Estate is the Kimberlin Club. I have been to functions here and the interior is cheerful and enjoyable. The bleak and unimaginative exterior is so boring that I think the designer was having a joke.

The club’s website is at http://www.kimberlinclub.co.uk/

ROYAL OBSERVER CORPS BUNKER [2]

In 2007 my attention was directed to an old Royal Observer Corps submerged station in the south-west corner of the estate. These pictures were taken shortly before building work started in the area. I was tempted to climb down the rusty steel ladder to see inside this observation post but lost my nerve. This artefact is now destroyed.
